Barcelona have less than 48 hours to resolve their transfer window business, including the signing of a striker. That can only happen if Ousmane Dembele departs on loan.
Alvaro Morata was the chosen one but in recent hours Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s name has started to ring out as an alternative. He could come on loan from Arsenal, if Dembele goes.
With Dembele, Barcelona cannot pay Aubameyang’s salary.
Barcelona have told the Frenchman to leave and kept him out of the last two squads, but he has a contract until June.
Curiously, Auba and Dembele played together at Borussia Dortmund and had a great season together, one of Dortmund’s best, before both heading elsewhere. They were good friends and showed it at the Joan Gamper trophy a couple of seasons ago, having a photo together after the game. Now their futures are linked.
