Athletic Club have announced Edin Terzic has agreed to become their new head coach, ending speculation around Andoni Iraola returning to his former club.
Former Borussia Dortmund boss Terzic’s contract at Athletic Club will run until the summer of 2028, and he will be presented to the fans at the start of the new season.
Iraola, who is leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season, was one of the candidates of interest to Athletic Club, where he spent 12 years as a player.
However, the 43-year-old, on the three-man shortlist to take over as Chelsea head coach, will not be returning to the Basque Country.
Manchester United are searching for a new head coach this summer and speculation has linked Iraola with a move to Old Trafford – but as it stands Michael Carrick is in pole position.
Real Madrid also have a vacancy in the dugout they need to fill with Alvaro Arbeloa’s contract set to expire.
