At least 30 killed in high-speed train collision south of Madrid

A high-speed train collision in central Spain’s Toledo province, south of Madrid, killed at least 30 people on Wednesday morning, according to officials. Local media, citing emergency services, reported 46 deaths, though the higher figure has not been confirmed.

Social media footage showed debris strewn along the tracks, with at least one carriage appearing to have completely derailed.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said on X that he was “shocked” by the accident and was in contact with the transport minister and the president of the Castilla-La Mancha region.

Rail operator ADIF announced on social media that high-speed service between Madrid, Ciudad Real and Andalusia has been suspended.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
