Police say the attack on Mayweather’s convoy took place on Monday, when a gunman opened fire on a convoy transporting the famous athlete and his entourage.

Gregor LaRosa, who has been identified as one of the retired boxer’s personal bodyguards, was shot in the leg as they approached an intersection shortly after leaving a night club in Atlanta. May Money and his group were heading toward the InterContinental Hotel, located in the Buckhead region of Atlanta.

LaRosa was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment but was discharged after three hours.

In their statement after the incident, Atlanta Police Department said Mayweather was not hurt in the shooting and his SUV was not hit.

‘We believe that Mr Mayweather may have been in one of the other vehicles in the [convoy] and was not injured,’ a statement said.

Police say there are speculations that the shooter was familiar with the entourage or the group of vehicles, adding that it remains unclear whether Mayweather and his friends were involved in any previous incident that could have led to the attack.

‘For now, it looks like this isn’t a random shooting…The shooter was targeting the victim’s vehicle,” said APD spokesman Donald Hannah in an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The LA Times quotes Leonard Ellerbe, a close friend of Mayweather’s, as confirming via text on Monday night that the 41-year-old boxing icon was fine.

Mayweather visited Atlanta for a promotional boxing event and there are speculations that he was aware of a threat to him and his entourage.

The legendary American boxer briefly came off retirement last August for a fight against Conor McGregor, an Irish kick-boxing star.

  2. Jealousy at work! Thank God he survived like he always does in the ring. Lol

  3. Mayweather attracts hate for his love for women, booze and the good life. But don’t blame him. He worked hard for his money. So, the envy isn’t worth an attempt on his life. Go make your money, haters 🙂

  4. Mayweather knows how to attract envy. Why wouldn’t someone want to kill him out of jealousy when he loves flaunting women and money?
