Argentine football has been thrown into mourning following the confirmation that footballer Lucas Trejo, his wife and their two children died in the devastating earthquake that struck Venezuela, one of the deadliest natural disasters to hit the region in recent years.
Trejo, who had been living in Venezuela with his family, was among the thousands of victims killed after the powerful earthquake caused widespread destruction, flattening homes, apartment buildings and public infrastructure across several communities. Rescue workers reportedly recovered the bodies of the footballer and his family after an extensive search operation.
Confirming the tragedy, officials said:
“Lucas Trejo, his wife and their two children have been confirmed among those who lost their lives in the earthquake.”
