Amazon has cut thousands of prices as it looks to compete against the traditional UK supermarkets.
It lowered 45% of the products available through its grocery section, Amazon Fresh, at the end of March, which is around 4,315 products.
According to analysis by The Grocer, Amazon is now as cheap or cheaper than Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s for nearly two-thirds of the products that it and at least one full-range supermarket stocks.
It doesn’t offer Amazon Fresh deliveries across the whole country yet, but has still managed to build a 1.9% grocery market share, Worldpanel data showed.
The online giant told The Grocer that its online grocery business grew twice as quickly as the rest of its business last year.
Nearly one in three products bought by customers fell into the grocery or household items categories, it added.
