The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has called for a full-scale investigation and justice following a brazen attack on the family home of one of its members in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at the family residence of Isaiah Thomas in Omuoko, Aluu. It came barely 24 hours after official campaigning commenced for the presidential and National Assembly elections.
According to the party, a large group of armed assailants, still unidentified, stormed the family compound and set several buildings ablaze. Thomas’ mother, Uchechi Thomas, reported that household property was also destroyed during the incident. She disclosed that the attackers appeared to be searching for her son, who had hosted an ADC meeting at the compound just a day earlier.
The ADC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Gabriel Pidomson, who led a party delegation to the scene, strongly condemned the violence. He described the act as unacceptable and antithetical to the principles of democratic participation.
Pidomson urged politicians and their supporters to embrace tolerance and operate within the bounds of the law. He specifically called on security agencies to “carry out a thorough and impartial investigation, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice”. He also appealed for calm among residents and ADC supporters, emphasizing that political disagreements should be resolved “through dialogue and lawful means, rather than actions that could endanger lives and property”.
Echoing the sentiment, ADC State Chairman Chukwudi Dimkpa appealed to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police to ensure a comprehensive probe and justice for those affected.
The ADC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful political participation, democratic values, and the rule of law, while urging all political stakeholders to work toward maintaining peace and security across the state.
