It’s been a tough week so far for Labour, with two of its parliamentary candidates accused of anti-Israel remarks in as many days.
On Monday, Labour withdrew support for its candidate in the Rochdale by-election after “new information” emerged about comments he is alleged to have made.
A report in the Daily Mail claimed that Azhar Ali blamed “people in the media from certain Jewish quarters” for fuelling criticism of a pro-Palestinian Labour MP, as well as claiming that Israel planned to “get rid of [Palestinians] from Gaza” and “grab” some of the land.
Now, former MP Graham Jones, who was planning to stand again in Hyndburn, has been suspended from the party after allegedly referring to “f***ing Israel” at a meeting of activists.
Yesterday, Sir Keir said he would investigate any new claims of this ilk, as he hailed his “decisive” action over the Mr Ali.
