3 Wounded after tourist plane malfunctioned mid-air in southwest Japan

A sightseeing helicopter made an emergency landing on Monday afternoon in the mountains in the southwestern Japanese prefecture of Kumamoto, injuring three people, local media reported.

The incident took place in the mountains of Kurokawa, Aso City, Kumamoto. The pilot and two passengers who were injured were taken to the hospital, public broadcaster NHK reported, citing the local fire department.

The three were conscious and able to communicate, it added.

The helicopter’s engine appeared to have stopped in the sky.

Police are investigating the details of the accident.
