Cristiano Ronaldo reveals he can’t wait to cry tears of joy when Portugal meet either France in the Euro 2016 final match on Sunday. He says he’s hoping to rejoice rather than mourn.

Having won their Wednesday match against Wales in a much hyped game which saw Ronaldo open the score sheet with a header and offer an assist to Luis Nani who closed the derby at 2-0, the Real Madrid star admits he is desperate to avoid being consoled after the history-making encounter.

CR7 had a flashback of the tears that trickled down his eyes at the same stage in 2004, when the Seleccao were stunned by Greece.

He said after the victory against Wales: “It’s something I’ve dreamt about since the beginning [of the tournament].

“We knew it’d be a long path to follow, but we were always in the mix.

“We believed from the beginning, even when we had a difficult spell, but as I always say, you can start badly as long as you finish well.

“This Coach, these players, the medical department, they all deserve it. We haven’t won anything yet, but the dream is here.

“I hope to smile or, at least, cry tears of joy. It’s a dream, I’ve always said, to win something with Portugal. We’re close and I think we’ll win [the Euros].”
