The 26-year-old man who was allegedly pushed into the Charles River Tuesday by an acquaintance has died, State Police said Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Mitchell Harrison of Watertown. Harrison was rescued from the water by State Police on Tuesday and then rushed to Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Harrison died overnight at the hospital, State Police said in a statement Wednesday.
Lenny Quintero-Flores, 27, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, but will now face the more serious charge of manslaughter, David Procopio, State Police spokesman, wrote in an email.
Authorities allege Quintero-Flores deliberately pushed Harrison into the river around 5 p.m. Tuesday while Harrison was sleeping or had passed out from alcohol consumption. The two men had been drinking alcohol on a recreational dock near the Massachusetts Avenue bridge at the time, according to Procopio.
The State Police Marine Unit and Boston Fire Department divers pulled Harrison from the river about 20 minutes later, Procopio said.
Quintero-Flores is being held on $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday in Charlestown District Court.
