Real Madrid veteran midfielder Luka Modric claims Croatia showed character as a great team during last Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Group D rivals Turkey at Euro 2016.

Croatia got an early lead in the match at Parc des Princes after Modric’s first-time volley from outside the box. The strike was all needed for the country to make a difference in the game.
In his post-match interview, the player said: “We’ve shown that we’re a great team, and we played against great opponents.
“What I can say is that I hit the ball perfectly, and I must thank God that it turned into a goal.
“I’m happy with both [the goal and win], but more so for victory, which is what matters.
“We still have two very tough games left, the first of them against Czech Republic.
“We can’t be suckered into the euphoria and must have confidence in ourselves.
“We’re still not through, but it was important to win and we did that.”
