Woman Left A Suicide Note For Parents, Police Found But Lost It.

It’s a double-loss for two parents in Chicago who were devastated to learn that a year after their daughter’s death, the city’s police force destroyed the last note she ever wrote them.

Terry Porter’s daughter Nicole, 29, took her own life in February 2015, leaving behind two notes—one written to her parents, CBS Chicago reports.

Police took the letters into evidence, and ruled the death a suicide in May of that year.

But the case wasn’t officially closed until April 2016, at which point the detective notified Porter that she could collect the letter. When Porter and her husband went to pick up the note a month later, they learned it had been destroyed due to an administrative error.

“It was like everything was ripped right open again,” Porter told CBS Chicago. “It was the last ‘I love you’ she ever said to us.”

Porter would like Chicago police to review their policies to ensure this doesn’t happen to any other grieving families.

The best word for the family is “take heart”. What if the note id something that would have compounded the problem? Maybe the police knew and tried to avoid that extra pain.

Better to lose the note if it’ll be a double tragedy.

There’s no amount of sorry or compensation that can change their loss but well, they should take heart and trust God.

The comments here have said it all but if I have to add something, I would say the police knew the content of that message was bad. Simple. They didn’t want the couple to suffer any further.

  23. People already said it here but let me add something. The police aren’t supposed to work with emotions. If they knew what was in the letter, they would have still handed it to the family. Except there could be one person who took the decision all by himself or herself.
