An estimated 35 people has been killed; 151 injured; and 10 in critical condition has been counted as victims of the bloody Brussels bomb blast.

It is possible that the accurate number of casualties in the Belgian capital will be more when released. The terrorist attacks took place on Zaventem airport and the Metro system.

David Garcia was travelling on the Metro with his wife and was at the stop before Maelbeek station at the time of the explosion.

He told Sky News: “We felt the sound wave of the explosion. The blast – not the noise. But we felt the tunnel pressure change in the tunnel. Then the metro convoy moved into the tunnel. We were stopped there for 15 to 20 minutes.

“After a while there started to be some smoke from the tunnel. We could hear some loud noises coming from the front of the train. From outside the train, from the tunnel.

“We were close at that moment to Maelbeek station and we could hear some people screaming in the distance. People in the train remained calm.”

The Eiffel Tower will be lit up on Tuesday evening with Belgium’s national colours in solidarity with the victims of the Brussels attacks, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo announced.

François Hollande, the French President, has given a Press conference in which he said “France and Belgium are linked through horror”.

He said: “Terrorism has struck Belgium and the whole of Europe is targeted.

“We need to take the full measure of the threat. The fight against terror will be long.”

Security agencies around the world has increased surveillance against further terrorist attacks as Salah Abdeslam, the suspected Isil terrorist arrested in Brussels on Friday confirmed that there was a plan to attack Germany, reports Justin Huggler in Berlin.

Two suspected terrorists named by Belgian police as accomplices to November’s Paris attacks are likely to be the focus of investigations as to who was responsible for the triple attacks at Brussel’s airports and metros.

Najim Laachraoui and Mohamed Abrini are still on the run following police raids that led to the capture of Salah Abdeslam, the lead Paris attacker, in Brussels on Friday.
