A Chinese young woman who was busted as part of a transnational child trafficking gang, has been executed by a court in southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Tuesday.

According to reports from local tabloids, Huang Qingheng’s execution was sanctioned by China’s Supreme Court.

Huang, whose nationality was not clear, claimed to be born in 1982 and lived in Vietnam. She and her gang were found guilty of trafficking more than 20 infants and children since 2010, according to court verdicts.

The children were smuggled from Vietnam to be sold in China, mainly in Guangdong Province. She and her group also specialized in smuggling pregnant Vietnamese women to China so they could sell their new-born babies immediately after birth.

Eleven kids were rescued in a raid by the Chinese police. The report confirms 10 of the victims were Vietnamese, and they’ve since been sent back to their country.

Huang’s death penalty was made necessary considering the gravity of her crimes–the rescued children in her den were aged between 10 days to seven months old.

There were 23 members with Huang in the child trafficking gang — both Chinese and Vietnamese nationals.

Apart from Huang, all other prisoners from her gang were given jail terms ranging from 22 months to life imprisonment after they were convicted.

According to a report, Huang was sentenced to death by the Intermediate People’s Court of Fangchenggang City in Guangxi after she was tried and found guilty of child trafficking in a first-instant court hearing held in May 2014.

As in line with the legal practice in China against all convicted criminals, she was also stripped of all her property.

Huang appealed the death penalty to a higher court in the region but her case was dismissed in January 2015. The higher people’s court upheld the initial ruling issued by the lower court before submitting Huang’s death sentence to the Supreme Court for approval.
