World Water Day: College Girl Dresses as Mermaid to Create Awareness.

A college student in southwest China’s Sichuan province dressed as a mermaid and posed for a group of photos to mark World Water Day which falls on March 22 every year.

She hopes that her photos could raise public awareness of conserving water and cherishing water resources.

The day focuses attention on the importance of freshwater. World Water Day advocates for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

This day was first formally proposed in Agenda 21 of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro.

In 1993, the first World Water Day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly and since, each year focuses on a different issue.

Water is life and is extremely vital for the existence of life on planet earth. Water preservation is essential for equity and poverty reduction. Availability of water resources creates better economic benefits and safeguards environment.
