This method would naturally leave a candidate in a confused state. The CEO of Charles Schwab, Walt Bettinger, always use this strategy during interviews.  He would take interviewees for breakfast, then asks the waiter to mess up their order.

During a chat with New York Times, he admitted: “I do that because I want to see how the person responds. That will help me understand how they deal with adversity. Are they upset, are they frustrated, or are they understanding? Life is like that, and business is like that. It’s just another way to get a look inside their heart rather than their head.

“We’re all going to make mistakes. The question is how are we going to recover when we make them, and are we going to be respectful to others when they make them?” He added.

Playing Paper, Scissors, Stone

Robert Newry (Managing Director and Co-Founder at Arctic Shores), reveals why playing paper, scissors, stone is of utmost importance as well as fast and quick in giving an on-the-spot assessment.

He says that the techniques chosen can help interviewers deduce certain personality traits – 45% of men will start with rock, those selecting paper are more emotionally stable and friendly, while those that use scissors are more strategic and manipulative.
