Just few days ago, an Obama-Trump meeting was more like a wishful thinking but those days are gone as Americans have chosen their leader to make this day a reality. The alleged acrimony between Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, and their party affiliations, are no longer of any importance.
During the political campaigns, Obama had lashed out at Trump while the Republican tagged Mr President as “incompetent”.
Following Tuesday’s triumph over Mrs Clinton, the U.S. president-elect Donald Trump held a closed door meeting with President Barack Obama on Thursday.
In America’s interest, both men have decided to put away politics and work together for a smooth transition.
“Victory comes with forgiveness,” they say. Mr Trump, who threatened to imprison Hillary Clinton during a speech on the night of their election, has changed his mind.
“We owe her a major debt of gratitude for her service to our country,” Trump said, as a compliment for her long history in the U.S. public service.
The White House meeting with Obama, goes on record as Trump’s first visit to Washington.
Obama and Trump started their talks around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, reports confirm.
The president-elect is also set to meet with House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell while in Washington.
Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who is one of the dignitaries in Trump’s entourage, will hold talks with the incumbent Vice President, Joe Biden.
“I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be President for all of Americans, and this is so important to me. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past, of which there were a few people, I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so that we can work together and unify our great country,” Trump said to those who never thought he would become a president of the United States of America.
“We are now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country,” Obama said on Wednesday. “The peaceful transition of power is one of the hallmarks of our democracy. And over the next few months, we are going to show that to the world.”
