The U.S. president, Donald Trump, is unhappy with negative media publications on America’s border control and family separation laws.

In his Sunday tweets, Trump ranted about “60 Minutes”, a CBS show which criticized his administration’s executive order that resulted in separating over 5,000 U.S.-resident children from their families.

“@60Minutes did a phony story about child separation when they know we had the exact same policy as the Obama Administration,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“In fact a picture of children in jails was used by other Fake Media to show how bad (cruel) we are, but it was in 2014 during O years. Obama separated children from parents, as did Bush etc., because that is the policy and law. I tried to keep them together but the problem is, when you do that, vast numbers of additional people storm the Border. So with Obama seperation [sic] is fine, but with Trump it’s not. Fake 60 Minutes!”

In Trump’s candid opinion, the border control laws have remained unchanged since the days of former U.S. presidents, Barack Obama and George W. Bush, adding that the publication from CBS News is factually incorrect.

The purpose of Trump’s widely controversial immigration policy was to significantly reduce the number of illegal immigrants or refugees and, in comparison with President Obama’s administration which documented a huge influx of migrants, the current U.S. government’ s “no tolerance policy” has yielded results by tearing families apart. The major difference, however, was that the courts stopped Obama from implementing the policy.

For his high number of deportations, Mr. Obama is still regarded as the “Deporter-in-Chief”. The former president, as a point, pleaded with Congress to intervene with improved immigration laws that favor refugees, especially those fleeing from war-torn regions.

On the contrary, Trump is deporting immigrants, including business owners and community leaders, without consideration for those who have no criminal records.

In the CBS expose, a former Homeland Security staff said no efforts were made by the American government to track children separated from their families, adding that the White House rejected help (from the security agency) which would have ensured that affected families could be reunited.
