Former Arsenal player Thierry Henry will “most likely” become coach of FC Girondins de Bordeaux, according to sources close to the Ligue 1 club.

RMC Sport TV noted on Wednesday that Henry, who is regarded as one of the finest strikers ever, has agreed to contract terms with Bordeaux.

Henry, 41, currently holds position as the Assistant Coach of Belgium national team. He will replace Gus Poyet as Bordeaux boss after the former Uruguay international player attracted suspension for “unguarded protests.”

Poyet was suspended last week in the aftermath of his “bold comments” on the club’s transfer deals. He expressed discontentment at the sale his favored striker Gaetan Laborde to Montpellier.

However, RMC Sport says Poyet’s dismissal at Bordeaux remains “inconclusive” until the new American owners validate the agreement. A group of U.S. entrepreneurs reportedly agreed to buy the Ligue 1 club from M6 in July.

Henry enjoyed a fruitful football career with Barcelona and Arsenal. He holds record as France’s record goalscorer.

Alongside former teammate Patrick Viera, the father-of-one joined a list of former World Cup winners who later managed top-flight football in France following his appointment at Nice this season. Both players won the 1998 World Cup with France after beating Brazil in the finals.

Bordeaux are 6-time winners of the French league. Their last victory was in 2009, when Laurent Blanc (a 1998 World Cup winner) managed the football team.
