Football lovers around the world can’t wait any longer for the hopeful 2016 / 2017 summer transfer window to open. With the Premier League season coming to a close, here’s all you need to know about the summer transfer window, SkySports confirms.

When does the transfer window open?

The 2016 summer transfer window opens on Thursday, June 9.

When does the transfer window close?

The 2016 summer transfer window will close on Wednesday, August 31 – two and a half weeks after the start of the 2016/17 Premier League season.

Do European leagues have different dates?

While France’s Ligue 1 has the same transfer window dates as the Premier League, there are slight differences in Spain, Germany and Italy, according to FIFA.

The summer transfer windows in La Liga, the Bundesliga and Serie A do not open until Friday, July 1.

However, like England and France, the transfer windows in the top flights in Spain, Germany and Italy all close on Wednesday, August 31.

Will 2016/17 be a record-breaking season for transfer spending?

Premier League spending in a single season went over £1bn for the first time in 2015/16. Top flight clubs spent £172.65m in the winter window after splashing £870m last summer.

However, with a new broadcast deal starting in 2016/17, clubs may spend even more this time around.
