Solskjær signs a 3-year contract with Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been appointed manager of Premier League side Manchester United.

Latest news from Old Trafford confirm the football coach who previously held position as the club’s caretaker manager has signed a 3-year contract. The new agreement elevates his position to “full-time manager.”

According to Manchester TV, the former United striker will hold a press conference later this evening.

‘From my first day at Old Trafford, I had a feeling that club is special and I was right about it,’ Solskjær before the announcement.

‘It was a great honour to be a Manchester United player.

‘Starting my coaching career here indicates something about the club’s values as well as mine… In recent months, our experience has been quite inspiring. I am grateful to the club management, coaching staff and players for the progress we’ve made so far.

‘Coaching is a job that I always dreamed of. And I’m beyond excited to have the chance to lead United for such a long time, with the hope that we will continue to amaze our fans—and by so doing—deliver trophies.

Between 1996 – 2007, Solskjær scored a total of 126 goals in 366 appearances for United. He was in-charge of the club’s reserve team until the end of 2010. In December 2018, the former striker was appointed “caretaker manager” and has since won a record 14 out of 19 games, also amazing highest points in EPL within the period. His most memorable achievement as a manager at Old Trafford is winning consecutive eight games in the aftermath of Jose Mourinho’s disappointing exit from Old Trafford.

United are currently 5th with 58 points on the English Premier League table, just 2 points behind Arsenal and 3 points behind Tottenham Hotspur.

“Since coming in as caretaker manager in December, the results Ole has delivered speak for themselves,” United Executive Vice Chairman, Ed Woodward said.

“More than just performances and results, Ole brings a wealth of experience, both as a player and as a coach, coupled with a desire to give young players their chance and a deep understanding of the culture of the club.

“This all means that he is the right person to take Manchester United forward…I want to thank Ole and the coaching team for everything they have done so far and congratulate him on this richly deserved appointment. The fans and everyone at the club are behind him as he looks to take us where we need to be and build the next stage of our history.”
