Selena Gomez refutes claim that “Bad Liar” was about The Weeknd

Selena Gomez hasn’t been a liar, even after her alleged cheating-related breakup with Justin Bieber, and definitely not now that she has found true love in The Weeknd.

Talking during a show titled On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Selena explained that she loves being the real her in love.

Boyfriend Abel Tesfaye wasn’t mentioned in the chat, and her numerous exes weren’t called to question either.

However, the 24-year-old denied being the “chronic liar” she called out in her newest single.

Abel, 27, and his girlfriend were seen having dinner at an Italian restaurant Carbone in New York. The pair have been in love for nearly six months, and according to a tipster who spoke with E! News, there’s no sign that they’ve having trust issues.

He has a soft spot for the “extremely talented and sexy” star.

“They stayed for a while and acted like a typical couple on date night,” the source said about their romantic night outing.

Abel dated Bella Hadid, whose younger sister Gigi was Selena’s close friend — before he was taken.

“I’m genuinely myself,” she explained to Ryan Seacrest.

“Hiding things…it’s too much pressure. I’m so happy with my music, my health is most important, my family is most important, but at the same time I just want to be happy. So if that’s me just being myself, then I don’t really care.”

Selena’s hit song “Bad Liar” is believed to be about the Canadian songwriter, singer and producer despite her denials and lack of proof.

An excerpt from the lyrics reads: I was walking down the street the other day /
Tryna distract myself / But then I see your face / Oh wait, that’s someone else / Tryna play it coy / Tryna make it disappear / But just like the battle of Troy / There’s nothing subtle here…

“Ooh, you’re taking up a fraction of my mind every time I watch you serpentine,” she sang in the ode.

Justin Tranter, who co-wrote “Bad Liar” with Sel [including Julia Michaels] says its about trying to hide magical feelings for someone new but not being able to.

Selena talked about the controversial song on Power 96.5 FM last month. In her words, “Bad Liar’ kind of tells a story of that feeling when you’re obsessed with someone, when you are in the ‘honeymoon phase’, I like to say. I’m a sucker for that feeling. That’s the best feeling in the whole world.

She continued, “I think that this feeling, it’s like you can’t get them out of your head. You’re willing to dress differently, you want to speak differently but that’s not what I’m encouraging. It’s more about the feeling.

“You just can’t play it cool. This is what I’m feeling in this exact moment, and you don’t know how to play it cool. I’m not natural, I’m very much ‘This is who I am and this is kind of what you get’ and it’s worked out for me so far.”

The single track was released on 17 May, 2017.

“The song was over a year ago,” she told Seacrest.  I was very much in a different place and I think it was more just telling a story.”

Selena explained that she’s genuinely being herself with boyfriend The Weeknd, adding that leaving a fake life isn’t really easy even though people eventually get used to it.

She regrettably admitted to living a life of lies.

In her candid words, the singer confessed: “That’s what I’ve learned … in the years of doing this, people get over it.”

“So it’s a good thing to be a ‘Bad Liar,'” Seacrest later insinuated and Selena responded, “I think so.”
