Roberto Carlos gives verdict on Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gianluigi Buffon

Former Real Madrid and Brazil international footballer Roberto Carlos has drawn a line between Cristiano Ronaldo and his Juventus rivals [Paulo Dybala and Gianluigi Buffon], saying the Portuguese international player deserves a spot ahead of the duo in this year’s Ballon d’Or contest.

The legendary left-back who has been described as “the most offensive-minded left-back in football’s history,” had a few encouraging words to say about Juve despite being a Madrid icon.

Carlos, 44, spoke with reporters as Madrid and Juventus prepare for their final UEFA Champions League match at Wales National Stadium in Cardiff.

The Brazilian admitted in an interview that he’d vote Buffon as the best goal-tender ever, and also expressed his wish that Dybala will change his mind in favor of the Spanish giants ahead of other money bags who’re reported to be chasing him signatures.

“Of course, there will be a lot of interest from top clubs,” Carlos said about the 23-year-old Argentina international footballer who is known as “La Joya [The Jewel]” in Spanish.

“He [Dybala] is an excellent player, who knows maybe one day he can wear the t-shirt of the biggest club in the world!”

Dybala, who plays as a striker for Juventus, started his football career at Instituto de Cordoba. He later moved to Italian club side Palermo in 2011, and his exploits earned him a place with Serie A Champions in 2015.

The youngster will pose a great danger against Madrid in today’s game unless he’s brought to his knees by Los Blancos’ reliable defense line. The Argentine is known for his skills, pace, technique and penchant for goals.

During his first season with La Madama, Dybala won three trophies: the league title, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italia. Yet, Carlos says Ronaldo deserves everything within reach.

“Buffon is the best goalkeeper in history but for what Cristiano is doing,” Carlos argued, “it’s difficult to take the Ballon d’Or from him.

“He [Ronaldo] is the best in the world,” he added.

Carlos resigned from active football in August, 2012, at the age of 39. He was thereafter, appointed as Silvasspor’s head coach in June, 2013.

Although he resigned from his managerial position in the Turkish Super Lig, the left-footed footballer signed for Indian Super League club Delhi Dynamos as player/manager.
