Real Madrid interested in Thibaut Courtois

Real Madrid have reportedly lost hope on David De Gea, and are now plotting a swoop on Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

The Belgium international footballer and his fellow shot-stopper De Gea have been on Madrid’s radar prior to this summer transfer window.

With Keylor Navas’ contract hanging in the balance, Zinedine Zidane was hoping to strengthen his squad with the duo’s arrival.

Navas, a Costa Rican goal-tender arrived the Bernabeu in 2014 on a 6-year contract for a transfer fee of €10 million. He was the most consistent keeper in the 2015-16 season, having conceded just 3 goals in 11 appearances. The 30-year-old also kept a record 9 clean sheets.

However, Don Balon, a Spanish football transfer tabloid says Los Blancos have a different transfer target at the moment which excludes the Manchester United star De Gea.

Madrid are considering a move for the former Genk goalkeeper [Courtois] who nearly left Manchester United for the Spanish club side in 2015.

According to the news outlet, the Chelsea goalkeeper is now on top of Zidane’s list.

Other shot-stoppers who are likely to join Madrid are Kasper Schmeichel, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Jan Oblak and Hugo Lloris, among others.

Christophe Henrotay, an agent for Courtois, has revealed he’s in constant talks with Madrid over his agent’s move to La Liga.

“Obviously the biggest clubs are interested in Thibaut, and that includes the reigning European champions,” said Henrotay.

“He is a goalkeeper who wins you games, wins you trophies.

“I meet regularly with Real Madrid’s directors and Thibaut’s situation is evaluated. My role is to keep him informed of the situation.”
