President Obama Takes a Bow at Last White House Correspondents’ Dinner

“Good evening everybody. It is an honour to be here at my last, and perhaps the last, White House Correspondents’ dinner. You all look great. The end of the republic has never looked better.”

That was the US President, Barack Obama showing humor at the last White House Correspondents’ Dinner during for his tenure in Washington D.C.

The president packed in a string of quick fire jokes and pop culture references into his speech, taking pot-shots at politicians on the current presidential campaign, CNN and even at Britain’s Prince George.

The dinner in Washington DC comes amid a fierce presidential campaign that provided plenty of material for after-dinner remarks by Obama.

Obama said he was disappointed that Republican candidate Donald Trump was a no-show, asking if he was at home eating a Trump steak, tweeting out insults to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

But still, he saved the best part for long-time political partner Hillary Clinton.

“You’ve got to admit it though, Hilary trying to appeal to young voters is a little bit like your relative who just signed up for Facebook. ‘Dear America, did you get my poke? Is it appearing on your wall? I’m not sure I’m using this right’.”

Besides domestic affairs, he also joked about his meeting last month with Prince George.

“Last week, Prince George showed up to our meeting in his bathrobe. That was a slap in the face. A clear breach of protocol. Although, while in England, I did have lunch with Her Majesty the Queen, took in a performance of Shakespeare, hit the (golf) links with (UK Prime Minister) David Cameron. Just in case anybody is still debating whether I’m black enough. I think that settles the debate.”

The President received a standing ovation for his comments.

He ended his speech saying “Obama Out” and dropped a mic to the ground.
