Giorgio Chiellini has unequivocally said his former Juventus teammate Alvaro Morata is capable of winning his place as Real Madrid’s striker, and keeping the No. 9 position in the years to come.

He added that it’s not impossible for the striker who has been linked to Manchester United recently, to play as a top striker for Los Blancos in the next “10 years”. Both Chiellini and Morata spent last season together at Juventus.

Earlier this week, Madrid officially announced that they had redeemed their buyback clause for Morata.

Following the buy back transaction between Juve and Real Madrid, the excited defender admitted he would be disappointed to see such an incredible talent [Morata] not given a chance in the squad that already boasts of Bale, Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“First of all, he’s a special lad,” Chiellini said at a Press conference on Friday.

“I’m sorry to be greeting him as a former teammate but I’m happy for him, and I hope he can stay at Real Madrid.

“He deserves to be the striker for Spain and Real, I’d be disappointed if he was used as a bargaining chip. He doesn’t deserve that.

“I don’t see why he can’t play at Real for 10 years, he has incredible talent and a lot of room for improvement.

“Over the past two years he’s grown so much on a tactical and human level. When he arrived he was a kid, he wasn’t considered a lad for the first team.

“We helped him grow every day, but the credit goes to him and his great talent.

“I hope he feels bad after Monday, but that could help him for the rest of his career!”

Spain will play against Italy on Monday in the European Championship’s Round of 16.
