Lagos has been rated the third least inhabitable city in the world.

The ranking which was done by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) considered factors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, among others.

Of 140 countries, Lagos placed 138th, according to a report obtained by Sahara Reporters.

Although Lagos was rated 53.5 per cent in culture and environment, and 46.4 per cent in infrastructure, the city was graded 37.5 per cent and 33.3 per cent in healthcare and education, respectively.

The EIU, which is the research and analysis division of The Economist Group was created in 1946.

“The concept of liveability is simple: it assesses which locations around the world provide the best or the worst living conditions,” according to the EIU report.

“Assessing liveability has a broad range of uses, from benchmarking perceptions of development levels to assigning a hardship allowance as part of expatriate relocation packages.

“The EIU’s liveability rating quantifies the challenges that might be presented to an individual’s lifestyle in any given location, and allows for direct comparison between locations.”

While Vienna in Australia was ranked the most liveable city in the world, other cities in the worst category included: Dakar in Senegal; Algiers in Algeria; Douala in Cameroon; Tripoli in Libya and Harare in Zimbabwe, which came 131st, 132nd, 133rd, 134th and 135th, respectively.

Syria’s Damascus came last in the rating.
