A man from Orlando who allegedly killed his wife and impersonated her on Facebook for a few days has been arrested.
He’s now cooling off at a police cell and giving an account of what actually transpired between him and the mother of his kids.
George Joseph McShane is believed to have strangled his 30-year-old wife, Kristen McShane.
In his efforts to cover the murder, George sent messages to her family and Facebook friends, claiming she didn’t have access to a mobile phone at the moment.
The murderer who also has a social media profile registered as “single”, asked friends to kindly contact her only on Facebook till the phone is repaired.
The Facebook post reads: “I can’t believe I dropped my phone in the toilet. I’m such an idiot. Message me here, til I can get it fixed.”
Kristen’s family got suspicious after the mother-of-two failed to return home, so they declared her as a missing person.
According to PEOPLE.com, the impersonator was arrested and he has since told cops how he sent messages to convince his wife’s family and friends that she was still alive.
George was arrested on Tuesday, the third day after he murdered his wife. He’s currently in police custody without any options for bail.
The alleged killer has been “charged with domestic battery by strangulation and second-degree murder,” the report says.
According to media reports, the alleged murderer is now awaiting trial at the Orange County Jail.
Last Tuesday, the police received an emergency call at 12:49 p.m. from someone who claimed to be a family member. The caller informed cops that George visited his wife’s home earlier in the day, adding that the couple had a misunderstanding which may have led to Kristen’s death.
The emergency caller feared George would commit suicide after the horrific incident, says the report.
When cops visited the murderer, they found George’s 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe had its engine running. They believed he was trying to kill himself.
“After officers removed him from the garage, they found the body of Kristen McShane in bed in the master bedroom, covered with a comforter,” according to the report.
George visited Kristen last Saturday afternoon and both had a quarrel before he “unintentionally” strangled her.
“During the course of the argument, George stated he lost his temper and jumped on Kristen, using his two hands to choke her until he realized she was dead,” the report states.
Kristen’s family and friends are now mourning her death. She has been described as “a beautiful person.”
Peter Mattias Ivester, a cousin to Kristen, told Orlando Sentinel: “It just wasn’t like her to not answer calls. We’re a tight-knit family and we’re always gabbing.
“I just can’t believe this really happened. It’s heartbreaking,” Ivester added.
“She was a walking encyclopedia. It was amazing how many little facts she knew about everything.”
Ivester, who lives in Maryland, USA, described Kristen as a “bottle of sunshine”.
