Herrera – United must get to the root of our shocking loss to Huddersfield Town

The defeat leaves United with 20 points after 9 games, and five 5 points behind league leaders Manchester City. Tottenham Hotspur has 17 points from eight games while defending champions, Chelsea, are trailing the teams with 16 points after nine matches.

Despite an effort from Marcus Rashford to salvage United’s pride, The Red Devils were unable to bounce back from the 2-0 deficit at half time.

Herrera, who was  was crowned last season’s United Player of the Year, says the club will conduct a thorough analysis on their loss, adding that the team’s morale is at stake. Mourinho’s men won 3-0 against Burnley in penultimate match.

The Portuguese coach agreed with Herrera’s resolve to address the damaging loss.

Speaking with MUTV ahead of United’s upcoming Carabao Cup tie which is scheduled at Swansea City on Saturday, and another big fixture against Tottenham Hotspur, the Spaniard said: “It was a very tough day because we had a big chance to keep winning games. We didn’t do it. They were more aggressive in the first half and played with more passion in the first 30-35 minutes.

“After that, we came back into the game well and tried to play side to side. We put in a lot of crosses but, when you’re losing 2-0 against such a passionate team, it’s not easy to equal the game. But we now have to analyse why we lost. We cannot concede what we did in the first 30-35 minutes and this is the Premier League, it’s not easy.

“We [just] have to analyse that between us, I don’t think it’s time to talk here now. We have to speak between us, but that’s what happened. They were more passionate in the first 30 minutes.”

Herrera continued: “They [Huddersfield] deserve the victory. We didn’t do enough to get the three points and we cannot think now that we have lost everything because we still have to play a lot of games. We now have two very tough Premier League games, you never know, you can win against anyone and lose against anyone.

“You want the opportunity to play again as quickly as possible and that’s what’s going to happen again against Swansea.”
