A woman whose hands were cut off by her heartless husband will forever leave with only one after surgeons carried out emergency surgeries but couldn’t attach the other.
Following an accusation of extramarital affairs, Margarita Grachyov engaged her husband in a war or words which led to scuffles, and in the fist of rage, her jealous partner Dmitry Grachyov, 26, carried out the barbaric attack which has since landed him in prison.
According to The U.K. Mirror, Dmitry took his wife to a thick forest in Moscow, with the intention of torturing her to confession with an ax, reports confirm.
Police said the mother-of-two denied being unfaithful, so her husband cut of one hand and later severed the second. He then drove her to a hospital with blood gushing out from those hands, and handed himself over to the authorities.
Now nicknamed “Othello with an ax,” doctors said Dmitry’s wife needed about 9 hours of complex surgeries to attach the hands. However, the right hand was too damaged to be re-attached.
The once-sweet couple have been married for 5 years. They share two boys aged three and four.
Friends of the couple said they were “close and romantic.”
Police added that Dmitry offered his wife a chance to use a lie-detector and she agreed but he cut her, anyway. The woman-beater has been remanded while investigation into the violent attack is ongoing.
A friend and colleague to Margarita, who worked as a marketer before the attack, said there was nothing wrong between Dmitry and his wife, adding that the spouse abuse victim never showed any signs of having marital problems.
Margarita was organizing a beauty contest in Moscow.
Other friends said they were heading for divorce before the horrific incident.
The one-handed woman reportedly called police on him recently but they only cautioned him against spouse abuse.
“I am immensely proud of my doctors. This was an outrageous case – a young woman had both hands cut off,” said the chief physician of City Hospital No 7 in Serpukhov, Alexander Myasnikov.
Margarita suffered the inhuman attack in Panikovo village on December 11.
A family friend told the news outlet that Dmitry once threatened to kill his wife and go to jail if need be.
Another of the surgeons said he couldn’t believe a human being would do that to his wife.
“I just cannot show the original pictures. It is just a bloody mess, even I have to strain and prepare myself to look at them,” Alexander added.
“The surgical team did an incredible job – sewing her up even though this seemed impossible at first.”
