Gerard Piqué extends contract with Barcelona

Gerard Piqué says he’s overjoyed to have extended his contract with Barcelona FC until 2022.

After signing his new contract, the central defender on Monday appeared before a group of newsmen alongside FC Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Speaking at the press briefing, Piqué said he feels very happy to have secured a spot at the Catalan club and noted that this contract extension will not be his last.

“I am very happy to celebrate this extension,” the Spain international footballer said, “and I hope that it is not the last. If I complete this contract it will be 14 years in the Barça set-up plus a further six or seven years at lower levels.”

The 30-year-old continued, “I have been a club member since I was born, Barça feels like my home, it is the club of my life and I am happy.

“Thank you president [Bartomeu] for the efforts you have made. Thank you my family for being with me in this dream.

“I want to enjoy today and this year which is looking good but there is still much to be done. We have to keep going. I am very happy.”
