Floyd Mayweather admits fight against UFC star Conor McGregor ‘can happen’

Floyd Mayweather, arguably the best boxer that ever lived, has admitted he’s more likely to get back in the ring with UFC star Conor McGregor.

The mega-fight has been a rumor for months but Floyd says it’s not impossible. McGregor wants to fight because he thinks it’ll be an easy bout and a money-spinning adventure.

Meanwhile, obeying the call from fans and giving them a fight of their lives – exactly as they’ve wished to see is what the boxing world champion wants. Mayweather doesn’t really need the cash, any way.

Floyd, 39, attended a boxing match in Las Vegas, where he was seen talking from the front row during Carl Frampton‘s loss on Saturday.

Media reports confirm both champions may go pound for pound before the end of 2018.

Conor McGregor

McGregor and Floyd have recently shown interest on social media following an alleged $1 billion proposal, something “Money Mayweather” can’t resist even after retiring from professional boxing in September 2015.

McGregor has repeatedly said the only thing on his mind right now is fighting the undefeated champion who has a record 49-0 from his amazing boxing career.

The Irish boxer, McGregor, granted a pay-per-view interview in Manchester talking with fans about his chances on fighting with Mayweather, and the professional American boxer responded with an interview at the MGM Grand on Saturday.

“Most likely the fight between me and Conor McGregor will happen,” Mayweather told Sky Sports 1.

“That’s the only fight that will get me back in the ring. He’s going to do a job on his side and we are going to do a job on my side and hopefully all the fans in the UK come over and support me.

“I don’t know (when it will be), I need to communicate with my team, the fight hasn’t been made yet, but it is all about entertainment so hopefully we can make it happen.

Although McGregor is a UFC champ, he has been linked with a switch to WWE and now wants to face Mayweather. Dreams, dreams, and dreams.

He [McGregor] has no boxing experience and he’s currently taking time off for the birth of his first child. You can’t say he’s an amateur or a pro but he believes in himself.

Whether Floyd stands a better chance to win or not, remains an argument to be settled in the ring.

However, Mayweather sees great potentials in his challenger.

“Like I said before, he is a tough competitor. He has proved throughout the years in the UFC that he can fight standing up. We’ll have to see what the future holds,” the pro-boxer said.

“I believe this is the first billion fight. I think it will happen at the end of this year or the start of next year,” he added at the event.

Although McGregor has a contract with UFC which may pose an obstacle to the boxing challenge, the star says he decides on fighting Mayweather or not.

“Nobody is my boss,” McGregor said on his PPV.

“I know Floyd likes to say Dana [White] is my boss and this and he decides. Hell no. Nobody decides this. If they let people go fight jiu-jitsu tournaments, they can’ stop me going to fight a boxing fight. So obviously it’s smoother to do it all together, but look, everyone’s just got to know their place, and everyone does know their place.”

  1. It’ll surely be a match to watch. The result may be disappointing to many people either for Mayweather or Connor. I’d vote for May anyday.
