FACEBOOK CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said his company wants to integrate WhatsApp and Instagram, adding that services from both applications will function under a single messaging platform–Facebook Messenger.
The idea behind Zuckerberg’s new business plan is to enhance communication between users across the three platforms.
According to The New York Times, this project will be completed in late 2019 or early 2020.
Media reports confirm that the new unified back-end will guarantee enhanced user experience with end-to-end encryption, which is needed to protect users’ privacy. In other words, third parties will lose access to messages sent or received in the 3-in-1 app.
Although Zuckerberg’s project–in theory–assures security for all three platforms, critics say there doubts because Facebook has suffered data leaks several times within a period of 12 months. On this premise, news of its latest merger has not been well received by many users.
An increasing number of Facebook users are dumping the popular messaging and video-sharing app for good, particularly because of the company’s collaboration with Cambridge Analytica, which exposed private conversations to hackers. Similarly, Facebook management also appeared before Congress for its contributions that allegedly influenced results of the 2016 U.S. presidential elections.
The exact logistics of what to expect once the three services are combined are not yet clear but, in truth, you should know that data will be at the heart of this integration.
In addition, there are speculations that Facebook may have plans to include a handy backdoor that will allow law enforcement to spy on WhatApp users at will.
