Chelsea’s 4-0 loss to Bournemouth is a very strong setback – Maurizio Sarri

Chelsea lost 4-0 to Bournemouth in one of the English Premier League’s most intriguing games this season.

Joshua King (47’, 74’) scored a brace while goals from David Brooks (63’) and Charlie Daniels (90’+5) increased the score line during Wednesday’s humiliating victory which marked Chelsea’s second consecutive loss this 2018/19 EPL season.

Bournemouth were lucky to have kept a clean sheet in the first 45 minutes thanks to an impenetrable defence. Their eagle-eyed goalkeeper Artur Boruc made five impressive saves during the encounter.

Efforts from Chelsea players failed to produce goals despite their 70 – 30 percent ball possession. With this win against The Blues—which comes as Bournemouth’s second consecutive league win—the hosts are now 10th on the EPL table while Maurizio Sarri’s men dropped to 5th by goal difference.

Sarri reportedly kept his players in the dressing room for over 40 minutes after the loss. He just wanted to talk to them in private and, hopefully, find the missing links.

Although the Italian coach earlier told reporters that his team was “very difficult to motivate,” pundits believe their loss against Bournemouth indicates problem at Stamford Bridge.

Sarri shouldered responsibility for their 4-0 loss, saying, “it was my fault because my players did not play as a team…They found it difficult to go behind.”

“At the end of the first half it was impossible to think the second would be a disaster and I want to understand why,” said the former Napoli coach who replaced Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge.

“Just like two months ago when we had to face difficulties, we lost our identity and played as 11 individuals…You can concede but you need to play because the match was under control in the first half,” he added.

“I am frustrated, of course, and it is a very strong setback because we knew this match was very important.”
