Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda gets 7 Years; says Lawyer betrayed his trust

Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard, has been sentenced to 7 years behind bars. His judgement was passed by a prosecuting judge at the Manhattan court on Wednesday October 19.

The 22-year-old changed his mind recently and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy and one count of weapons possession after accepting a plea deal from the authorities.

Bobby made the decision following his attorney’s guidance just a few days before he was due to stand trial. But he never expected the sentence will come with a whole seven god forsaken years.

According to a report from New York Daily, the hip-hop star felt betrayed by his lawyer.

After the the Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Abraham Clott pronounced his judgement, Bobby was quick to reject the declaration, claiming his attorney forced him into accepting the deal against his will.

“I was forced to take this sentence. I don’t want to take this sentence,” Shmurda told the judge.

It was really embarrassing for his lawyer Alex Spiro, who stood beside the defendant as events unfolded in Manhattan’s courtroom.

“I want to drop my plea,” Bobby maintained.

His protest on the judgement was rejected by Assistant District Attorney Nigel Farinha, who asked the presiding judge to go ahead with the paperwork on the rapper’s jail term. Clott followed instructions and imposed the agreed-upon sentence on Bobby.

The Brooklyn rapper who’s popular for his hit song “Hot Boy” screamed at his lawyer in court, saying: “I want to drop my plea and fire you … Why are you telling me to waive my rights? I am not waiving my rights.”

Spiro says his client is “frustrated by the legal process” after the judge rejected their request for a three-week delay in passing the sentence.

“I don’t see any reason for an adjournment,” the judge declared.

According to Don Diva, the rapper has been in jail since December 2014 after he was arrested with more than 15 defendants who were charged with various crimes which include “attempted murder” and “drug dealing” associated with gangs.

Bobby Shmurda was arrested on June 3, 2014 for gun possession though he claimed it was intended for his music video shoots.

The court sentences says all time spent in jail by the defendant before the recent sentence will be counted.

Meanwhile, the rapper’s mother Leslie Pollard didn’t accept a 7-year jail term for her beloved son. She claims: “They refused to give him haircuts. They refuse to take him to the yard. They ask him, ‘Who the eff do you think you are because you’re Bobby Shmurda?'”

Leslie continues: “This has been a nightmare. It’s like one lie after the other. I think there’s a stereotype with the rap artists today, saying that you all come from the projects, you all come from uneducated families.

“Not me,” the angry mom added. “I’ve always worked hard to take care of my kids.” 

“If we made bail, I would’ve beat the case,” a sad Bobby said, according a report from The Billboard. “We look guilty in these orange jump suits. If you put Al Sharpton in a orange jumpsuit and accuse him of having a gun, he’s going to be found guilty. They just look at our skin color, and look at where we’re from. I didn’t get caught with anything on me and the cops lied, saying they seen me with a gun in my hand. I explained the whole situation to Epic and they were behind me all the way. We had big-money lawyers and they still couldn’t do nothing because of the judge, who looked at us like black thugs.”

The rapper explained why he had to accept the deal as directed by his lawyer.

“I did it for Rowdy. They offered me five [years] and offered Rowdy 12,” the rap MC said, explaining the terms of the prosecution’s global plea deal, which was contingent on all three (Rowdy, Shmurda and McCoy) accepting the same offer. “They said the only way they’ll give him seven is if I took seven, too. So, you know, I had to take one for the dawgs.”
