Beyonce received the Fashion Icon Award at Monday night’s CFDA Fashion Awards.
The famous singer looked incredible wearing an elegant Givenchy suit (silver and black striped) with a matching pair of black peep toe heels and her Formation-themed hat which stood out from the crowd.
Queen Bey was accompanied by hubby Jay Z, little Blue Ivy and mum Tina Knowles. Shortly after the family arrived, the superstar took to the stage for a powerful speech as she received the accolade.
Remarkable in the ‘Lemonade’ singer’s speech was her reference to mum and uncle who designed Destiny’s Child outfits because no one would lend to “four black country curvy girls.”
Jay-Z was all smiles watching from the stands as Beyonce startled the crowd with her revelations.
“My mother actually designed my wedding dress, my prom dress, my first CFDA Award dress, my first Grammy dress and the list goes on and on and on,” she shared.
“This to me is the true power and potential of fashion. It’s a tool for finding your own identity, expression and strength. It transcends style and is a time capsule for all our greatest milestones. So, to my mother, my uncle, my grandma – thank you all. “
She continued: “Thank you for showing me that having your presence is about so much more than the clothes you wear and your physical beauty.
“Thank you for showing me to never take no for an answer, thank you for showing me how to take risks, work hard and live life on my own terms. I want to say thank you.
“We have an opportunity to contribute to a society where any girl can look at a billboard or magazine cover and see her own reflection. Soul has no color, no shape, no form,” she added while Tina wipes away tears listening to her daughter speak.
“Just like all your work it goes so far beyond what the eyes can see. You have the power to change perception, to inspire and empower, to show people how to embrace their complications and flaws and see the true beauty that’s inside all of us.”
