Having met in several decisive fixtures, Barca and Sevilla will fight for the 2018 Copa del Rey trophy on 21 April, 2018.

While the venue is yet to be decided, La Blaugranas are favorites to the crown.

Barca have won in almost every occasion, four in this century, starting from 1948’s Copa EVA, a football tournament which lasted only 6 years after the team won it three times, including a 1-0 triumph against Sevilla before the competition was renamed Spanish Super Cup.

58 years later, both teams met again in August 2006 for the UEFA Super Cup finals, and Juande Ramos’ Sevilla shocked Frank Rijkaard’s with a 3-0 win, a result which marked their rivalry on the big stage.

Sevilla met Barca in August 2010 for a Spanish Super Cup showdown. It was their first finals in the competition, and contrary to what many analysts expected, Pep Guardiola’s team suffered a devastating 3-1 loss in the first leg but mounted an impressive comeback with a remarkable 4-0 win on home turf.

Barcelona continued their winning streak after six years, recording 2-0 and 3-0 on both legs.

Later in April, a Lionel Messi-led strike force will expect to maintain the status quo against Sevilla, an underrated team with lots of potentials.

Anything and everything can happen in football even though football analysts think Ernesto Valverde’s team is unbeatable at the moment.
