Chelsea appointed Italy’s coach Antonio Conte as manager of the team on Monday. He has the responsibility of turning the Premier League table around in favor of the club, nothing else will be acceptable as Chelsea currently stands 10th on the chart.
The Italian tactician will be moving over to Stamford Bridge on a contract that will last for 3 years.
He starts the job after the June 10-July 10 European Championship in France.
On Dec 19 The famous Dutchman Guus Hiddink took over reigns from Jose Mourinho who gave the club its worst start in a top flight campaign during his second term. It was the poorest record in a history spanning over thirty years.
Antonio Conte’s arrival will relieve Guus Hiddink of his duties as the interim manager.
Hiddink has been commended to maintaining stability in the team and providing records so far.
The in-coming manager Antonio Conte said, “I am very excited about the prospect of working at Chelsea Football Club. I am proud to be the coach of the national team of my country and only a role as attractive as manager of Chelsea could follow that.”
“I am happy we have made the announcement now so everything is clear and we can end the speculation. I will continue to focus on my job with the Italian national team and will reserve speaking about Chelsea again until after the Euros.”
Conte played more than 400 games for Italian club Juventus. He has also managed the same club between 2012-2014 and winning 3 Seria A titles.
The Italian coach is coming at a time when Chelsea’s foundation is shaky but he has the heart of a builder who would stop at nothing to use every available stone to erect an enviable structure.
Chelsea’s 13-year unbroken run in the Champions League or the reality of missing out in next season’s Europa League isn’t a threat. With Antonio Conte, all hope is not lost.
Gianluca Vialli, Claudio Ranieri, Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto Di Matteo are the former Italians who had managed Chelsea.
Antonio Conte will make the fifth mark and hopefully, a memorable one.
