An eighth Amazon warehouse worker has died from coronavirus, as the company continues to wrestle with complaints about workplace safety, NBC News reported.

The female worker was assigned to the packing area at a fulfillment center near Cleveland in North Randall, Ohio. She had worked with Amazon since November 2018.

She was diagnosed April 30, which was also the last day she worked, according to Amazon spokesperson Lisa Levandowski. The company was informed about her positive results May 8 and her death May 18.

“We are saddened by the loss of an associate who had worked at our site in Randall, Ohio,” Levandowski said. “Her family and loved ones are in our thoughts, and we are supporting her fellow colleagues.”

The e-commerce giant said it was giving counseling to other warehouse employees, who were also told about the woman’s diagnosis before her death, Levandowski said. Amazon said it will perform contact tracing for everyone who tests positive, using video surveillance to watch where works stand in proximity to one another.

Amazon has received criticism from its employees for not providing safer work conditions at warehouses. Representatives from the company said in late February they started deep cleaning on frequently touched areas, such as door handles, handrails and elevator buttons. Three weeks ago, they said they began spraying disinfectant throughout all warehouses.

Masks were provided and mandated for all employees April 15.
