2018/19 Premier League: Why Manchester City are favorites

Sky Sports has crowned Manchester City as the best football club in Europe.

At the moment, Pep Guardiola’s men are Europe’s top scorers—a position they earned for their resilience, brilliant individual performances, and teamwork. The team found their goal blitz since January 2019 and the seeming New Year resolution has raked in 19 goals in their last 3 games.

City have scored a total of 99 goals since the start of this season.

In its Wednesday publication, Sky Sports noted that City are just one goal away from reaching 100 goals for the 2018/19 season and this dream can, certainly, be achieved against Huddersfield on Sunday—considering the opponents’ “managerless” status.

“Their 3-0 win over Wolves on Monday Night Football took them to 99 goals in all competitions with four months of the campaign still to play,” the sports news outlet explained.

“Pep Guardiola’s side still have plenty of work to do to catch Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.”

David Clayton highlighted City’s free-scoring abilities since the 2018/19 EPL season, describing it as “extraordinary” and unprecedented in England and Europe’s top leagues. ‘Nothing comes close to this season’s achievement…I’m optimistic…Nothing is impossible,’ he said.

The analysis from Sky Sports shows that City have an average of 2.9 goals per game. With 99 goals scored so far, Guardiola’s men are 18 more above all clubs in Europe—the closest team being Ligue 1 side, Paris Saint-German.

City netted 22 goals in four games, a feat they “easily” achieved with their 7 and 9-goal drubbings on Rotherham and Burton Albion respectively.

There are speculations in the football world that City will eventually topple Liverpool for EPL’s top position—if the free-scoring side maintains their current form.
